Halloween!! (Buenos Aires, Brazil)

First up was putting our soda soaked gummy bears in the freezer, a tik tok trend, to see if they would be as good as people said!

We definitely missed our normal Halloween activities (parties at preschool, making sugar cookies, carving pumpkins, and trick or treating) but we really did have a fun time and loved Camryn's amazing party!

The first couple of days in Buenos Aires, Argentina

 We took a 3 hour flight from Rio to Buenos Aires and then had an hour long Uber ride to our Airbnb.  It is very flat here and very green due to many beautiful trees.  We saw suburbs with one family homes, which we haven't seen since leaving the states.  

We saw the Buenos Aires LDS temple very close the airport (I'm sad its so far away b/c its hard to justify a trip to take pictures of it when it's that far away!).  I should have snapped a picture from the car!

We found our airbnb and it seems really nice.  It has a roof top pool and an indoor pool.  We have been to the rooftop pool everyday so far.  The seats aren't our favorite b/c they aren't great for the perfect sun exposure :), but we are making do!

We grabbed a late lunch when we first got here at a cute Italian place.  It was definitely pricier than Peru and Brazil!

Our first walk we headed to go see some horse races, but the horses weren't racing that day, we have to wait until Friday.  But we loved the big giant park and all the pretty trees and buildings

She was excited to see a real phone booth! Well it used to be a phone booth, now there isn't a phone in it. 

Trying to get a good day of the trip picture, but we were struggling, or maybe just my attitude was struggling :)

We also had to go grocery shopping so we found a grocery store to navigate to and then on the way home Konrad accidentally put in the wrong address so we were headed the wrong way, nothing wrong with a few more steps though :)

Last Day in Rio de Janeiro

The Johnson's dropped off a pumpkin for Ian when they went to visit Cooper.  Made me cry!

Of course we had to get Acai!  I'm going to miss this place!!!

Cam decided she wanted get one with just granola!  I finally have a kid that will eat acai with me!!!

Of course we got Nutella tapioca as well.  Mine had strawberries, Cam's was just Nutella, and Konrad got banana with his.  

We saw these officers and their horses in the evenings and on weekends.

and we wanted McDonald's fries (I got the cheddar bacon ones, that weren't as yummy as last time!) and their yummy caramel peanut milk shake.  So good!  I'm hoping that have that in Argentina!

We left our airbnb at 5:00 am and headed to the airport.  Our Uber driver was super sketch and I prayed the whole time we'd survive!

We really enjoyed Rio, but we are glad to be heading to a Spanish speaking country next.  We aren't close to fluent in Spanish, but we understand a lot more of it than we do Portuguese!!!
 

Rio Temple and Parque Natural Municipal Chico Mendes (Rio, Brazil)

 Originally we were going to go the park yesterday but when we woke up and it was sunny I threw out the idea of going on Sunday after church b/c the LDS Rio Temple and a church building, were on the way to the park.  So we could go to church, walk around the temple grounds, and then head to the park.  

We left plenty early and got to church with 30 minutes to kill before church started, but we figured we'd walk around the temple grounds and then head in to church.  When we pulled up to the buildings there were people directing parking and Konrad was like is it Stake Conference? (cause that is what happens at home when it's stake conference) and I was like who knows.  The temple grounds were gated so we couldn't walk up to the temple but we were able to take some pictures of course from outside the gate. 

I loved the blue details!! 

The chapel.  People were arriving from 10:00 on and I was like wow, these people get to church early.  But no, when we finally headed in we found out it was in fact stake conference.  Since I couldn't take the sacrament we just left.  

From the highway:

So we grabbed another Uber and headed to the park.  The goal was to see some native animals and Cam has been looking forward to this for 2 weeks.  She wanted to see capybaras and sloths.  She has wanted to go to Brazil to see sloths since 3rd grade!  Spoiler alert, we didn't see either animal.  Sad.  Face.  

But the park was pretty and we did see quite a few alligators. 

It was very jungle like (which made the perfect hiding spots for animals)

Then we took a 45 minute Uber ride back to our area and grabbed some tapioca and acai

The line at the other acai was too long so I told Konrad to just order it at the tapioca place forgetting how it's really just not that tasty there.  I convinced myself it would be just fine, but I was wrong.  So disappointing.  Konrad was like "I told you!!".  I realized I should have listened to him b/c he is normally all about making things easy and would prefer to order both at the same place, so when he hesitated I should have said, you are right and ran next door!

After some chill time at the airbnb we headed to walk along Ipanema searching for a few more souvenirs.  We found a cool park

a McDonalds (we ate at a McDonalds a couple of days ago and enjoyed the cheddar bacon fries and their dulce peanut shake.  We might need to go get another tomorrow :)

All day today (Sunday) the lanes closest to the beach have been closed to cars.  People run, walk, rollerblade, scoot, skateboard, and ride bikes down the road.  When we saw it this morning I thought for sure it was for a race or something, but nope, just a Sunday thing!

Cam found a cute necklace she liked and the seller was very kind to make sure it fit before she bought it!
