The Rest of March

The school district is offering meals every school day.  It is a packed bag full of breakfast and lunch.  We had stopped by to pick up homework packets for Camryn and they gave us lunch as well.  The girls were excited for some of the stuff, especially the chocolate milk :)

 Zach turned 19 on the 23rd.  He wanted a Red Velvet cake with regular frosting and sprinkles (not cream cheese frosting, sigh, sad face :))

 Our RS was doing virtual activities for the first 5-6 weeks of quarantine.  They asked me to do a craft one.  Of course I went with a child craft and an Easter lesson for children :)

The First Week of Quarantine

Sam ordered some fake ivy to hang in her room.  I love it!

 Konrad flew down to help Kimber move out of her dorm, put most of her stuff in a storage unit, and then they rented a car to drive home.  It was nice to have her back with us.  I think she thinks we are pretty boring though!

 After seeing a lot of chalk art on social media we decided to try our own.  Seeing these pictures (on June 9th when I'm playing blog catch up) makes me want to do another one :)

 Zoom calls have become a huge thing.  This one was for my Grandma, Joan Carlson's 93rd birthday.  So fun to see so many of my aunts/uncles, cousins, and cousins kids all in one screen.

Corona Virus

Its been a little crazy around here lately.  A few months ago we started hearing reports of the Corona Virus in China.  Konrad's cousin, Natalie, was living in Shanghai and we would see almost daily updates as things were being shut down and their lives were being forced to chance.  In Feb, Natalie and her family flew back to the states, escaping just before they cancelled flights coming out of there.

3 months later we are starting to see the same things that Natalie saw.  Earlier this week all extra things were cancelled.  Sports (even Konrad and I's volleyball league that just started last week), plays, lessons, clubs, dinners, fundraisers, etc.  Yesterday we got notice that all schools in King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties would be closed for 6 weeks.  6 weeks!!!!  That is like a summer.

Church (and all activities, meetings, etc) has also been cancelled.

No gatherings of 250 or more people can happen.  Professional sporting events, concerts, shows, etc have all been cancelled.

Allison is excited.  Camryn is somewhat excited, but she will hate it soon enough when she isn't seeing her friends daily.  Sam actually still as school b/c she is at Pierce College and they haven't closed down yet.

Today I made the decision to close preschool.  My first thought was to keep it open.  It's a small group and figured I could keep the room clean enough that we should be fine.  After a sleepless night I decided I needed to cancel.  Even if parents kept anyone home with sick symptoms, that would mean half my class couldn't come between allergies and colds the majority has symptoms right now.  Who is to say they aren't corona symptoms?  We have new babies in families, grandparents that are heavily involved in preschooler lives, and siblings with respiratory issues.  What if somehow corona came into my preschool and got to one of those high risk people.  I couldn't bare the weight of that.

We are going to have one more day of class.  Next week we were supposed to have St. Patrick's Day and a field trip to the zoo.   We will have our party, but no zoo (the zoo will be closed as of Monday).

I'm going to make up a little homework packet for my classes, to keep them a little busy.

I also have to come up with a plan for Allison and Camryn (Sam has mostly online classes, so I'm hoping she will be able to continue as planned) that involves some type of learning.

People are in panic mode and store shelves are empty.  Toilet paper is very hard to come by.  I finally ordered some on Amazon, just in case I can't find it here.  I've tried 4 stores already.  It took me 3 stores to find flour.  As of now we are pretty stocked up.  I think I'm going to head to winco.  I'd like to find some ground beef and a few other things, maybe even some TP :)

The plan is that cancelling all these things will stop the spread, or at least slow it down so that hospitals can keep up with the sick.  So many other countries are having to turn people away who really need help b/c they can't take them all.  I feel like half our country thinks the shut down is good and will be helpful.  The other half thinks its all a hoax.  It's hard watching people fight about it on social media.

I'm not worried about having my girls home, I'm always glad for that.  I am worried that it won't really be over in 6 weeks.  I'm worried that we won't be able to go to Hawaii this year with my family.  I'm pretty sure we won't be able to go to Mexico for Spring Break as we had planned.  We have all this free time it would be the perfect time to go somewhere for 6 weeks, but its just not safe.

To top it off, we woke up to snow this morning.  It's March 13th...Friday the 13th!...and it was snowing.  Happy Birthday Jordan Dance!

Allison Goes to Disneyland

Allison, Gabby, Madi, and Jenna were able to go to Disneyland with Gabby's mom and Jenna's mom.  Gabby's dad is a pilot for Alaska Airlines and so all the girls were able to fly standby.  Allison paid for her own Disneyland Tickets and most of her souvenirs, food, etc.  She did a great job earning (tutoring Elijah and babysitting Kaulder) and then saving the money to go.  They had so much fun.  These pictures are all stolen off their social media pages or texted to me by Lisa, Gabby's mom.

Another Corona side note.  These girls went to Disneyland on Monday, on Wednesday Disneyland was closed due to Corona.  They were lucky they had their trip planned for when they did.  And also very lucky that they didn't get the corona virus while they were there :)
