Thoughtful Friends

We received 2 new Ian gifts recently:

Korrin gave us this cute sign for Christmas.  So cute and goes perfectly with our living room colors.

Friday, Cali texted me and said she had a gift to drop off.  I wondered what it could be.  When it came I was so touched.  She was recently released as Primary president in our ward and we had worked together in Primary when I was president, back when I was pregnant with Ian.  In her note she talked about how she knew this upcoming Sunday would be hard for me.  To be honest, I wasn't sure why she thought it would be hard for me, but as I kept reading, tears came to my eyes.  Ian would have started Sunbeams today (a Sunday school class for 3 year old children).  Crazy to think he would be that old.  Crazy to think that Ian and Cam would have been in nursery together for these past two months.  Sad.
She gave us this cute picture and a Sunshine charm for each of us and told us that she would be a sunbeam this year in honor of Ian.  So sweet.

Fast forward a few hours later that same day.  I was scrolling through facebook and saw a post from my friend Amanda, the Primary secretary.  She shared a picture of a list of the upcoming sunbeams from our ward.  Had Cali not prepared me, that list would have been upsetting to me...b/c I would have realized at that moment that Ian should have been on that list.  It would have been a hard moment.  But b/c of Cali's thoughtfulness, I was prepared and even though it still made me sad, I could smile and remember her sweet note.

I can't tell you how much it means to still have people remember Ian, even almost 4 years later.  Thank you for letting me know you remember him, b/c I'll never forget him, and knowing that you remember him helps me feel loved and less alone.

Recently a family friend of Konrad's parents, one that I haven't seen since she was a young teenager, had to bury her 5 month old baby.  Olivia was born with a very rare disease and they knew she wouldn't live long.  I've had opportunities in the past few weeks to message back and forth with Lindsey and have appreciated the opportunity to help her through this loss as well as be reminded of Ian and the things he taught me, and to realize how far I've come.  That was a hard time in my life and I wish more than anything that it didn't have to happen.  I am grateful to know that through faith, friends, and family I can get through hard things an still be standing in the end.

Thanks again Korrin and Cali.  You two are the best!
