It all started Monday, May 6th, morning at 6:00 a.m.
Dr. Bigler offered to induce me and being the planner that I am, decided that was a great way to go. I could plan care for the girls, I could plan for preschool, and I could plan the rest of my week :)
Konrad called the hospital at 6:00 Monday morning and we were told to call back at 12:00 because they didn't have room for us at the moment. So I taught preschool.
At 12:00 they told us to call back at 3:00. So we went out to lunch and ran some errands for preschool.
At 3:00 they told us to call back at 5:00. So I tried to sleep.
At 5:00 they told us THEY would call us back in 30 minutes. I tried not to cry.
At 6:30 Konrad called them to see what was going on. They said again, that they would call us back again in about 30 minutes. At this point I was thinking it wasn't worth being induced. I didn't want to labor all night, I know how exhausting that is. But when we asked them what would happen if we chose not to come in, even if they had room that night, they said we'd have to start the process all over again and might go through the same thing on Tuesday. So we decided that if they did call back we'd go in.
I was pretty frustrated at this point. Crying and feeling sorry for myself. Frustrated that we didn't know if we needed to make plans for the girls to go to my parents. Who was going to take Kimber to her volleyball game. Did Konrad need to get a sub to coach for him and to play in his volleyball game. Would I teach preschool the next day or not. I decided to go out and get some fresh air while walking at the park. If I went into labor, they'd have to let me stay, right???
Right around 7:00 Samantha came running out yelling "Mommy, mommy! They called, you can go!"
So we called my parents and arranged for them to come pick up the girls and then we jumped in the car and went.
On the way there I got extremely anxious (I'd been really anxious the past week, but it got really bad on that drive). I was in tears. I was completely terrified. It was another "first". I was heading to the hospital to deliver a baby, the last time hadn't gone well, so doing it again for the first time was intense.
Once there we got all checked in and I tried to relax. Not so easy. Labor is intense anyways, add on mental issues and it felt worse. I was already shaking (think of after delivery shakes) and my blood pressure was up (I've never once had a high blood pressure reading). I was terrified beyond words, but tired to keep it all in and just act excited.
Around 10:00 they started the PIT drip. I lasted until around 2:00 when I was in tears from pain/lack of sleep/fear and ready for my epidural. The lady in the room next to me was SCREAMING her head off and I was determined not to do the same thing. :) Luckily my nurse acted fast and within 20 or 30 minutes I had my epidural and was feeling much better.
After the epidural, my contractions slowed down and they kept losing Camryn's heart beat so my nurse basically sat by my bedside moving the baby heart monitor after each contraction to track her. They had me moving positions after every contraction as well trying to find a good place for her. Right before the nurses called my doctor, he happened to come check on me. He put an internal monitor on Camryn and said he'd be back in an hour or so. 10 minutes later he happened to walk by my room again, right as the nurse was heading out to get him. 10 minutes later Camryn was laying on my chest.
She was born at 4:00 a.m.. Weighed in at 6 lb. 3 oz. And was 20 inches long.
The last 20 minutes of my labor were pretty intense. They had to put oxygen on me. I could tell they were really nervous about Camryn's heartbeat (in the end I believe the cord was in fact wrapped around her neck). Basically I went into freak-out mode. I was positive something horrible was going to happen. I just remember staring at Konrad and wanting it all to end. I just wanted to be done. The relief I felt when I heard her cry, brought me to tears. I couldn't believe she was here and that she was actually alive. This relief made it so I didn't even bat an eye when they laid her all disgusting and gross on me...something that I wasn't planning on. :) My baby was here. She was fine. She would get to come home with us. So I cried and cried, tears of relief. Tears of sadness that it hadn't went this way with Ian.
Enjoy some pictures of my cute little girl...
